This is not a freshly rooted corm, recently acclimated tissue culture plant, or a juvenile rushed into a sale pot as soon as it became technically sellable.

Pon Addict Alocasia ‘Venom’ plants are grown with a deliberately longer establishment period, with particular emphasis placed on the part of the plant you cannot see in the listing photograph: the root system.

Each plant is allowed time to develop a substantial, actively growing root mass before being offered for sale. Strong roots provide a considerably better starting point when a plant changes home, particularly when it must simultaneously adapt to different light, humidity, temperature, watering and, potentially, a different growing medium.

The objective is simple: sell an established plant, not a propagation project.

Your plant will be supplied as the individual specimen shown or according to the size and specification stated in the listing. Natural differences between leaves are expected. Alocasia ‘Venom’ is particularly rewarding in this respect, as its characteristic morphology becomes increasingly pronounced as the plant matures.

Environmental History Included

Plants do not arrive with a reset button. The conditions in which they were grown before reaching you matter.

Where sufficient sensor data is available, your plant will therefore include its Pon Addict Environmental History, supplied electronically after purchase. This provides weekly average temperature and relative humidity data from its growing environment, with day and night values separated according to the lighting cycle wherever possible.

Instead of being told that the plant was grown in vaguely “high humidity”, you can see the conditions it actually experienced.

This information can be used to make the transition into your own environment more deliberate and gradual, particularly for collectors growing in cabinets, controlled environments or other monitored setups.

The Pon Addict Mother Plant & Provenance

The mother plant behind this Pon Addict line was acquired in February 2025 from The Eden Lab as an already acclimated tissue-culture juvenile.

The provenance of the line can be traced further than the name printed on a nursery label. The Eden Lab obtained their originating Alocasia ‘Venom’ directly from Mason Lee, the creator and original source of the cultivar.

That provenance matters.

Since arriving at Pon Addict, the mother plant has been maintained long-term rather than simply grown as temporary propagation stock. It has repeatedly produced the distinctive, highly sculptural foliage for which ‘Venom’ is collected, with consistently strong expression across successive leaves.

It has also reached reproductive maturity under Pon Addict cultivation, producing four inflorescences to date.

The plants offered here are therefore descendants of a known, established mother plant with documented ownership history and extensive cultivation time at Pon Addict.

About Alocasia ‘Venom’

Alocasia ‘Venom’ is a relatively modern collector cultivar originating from South Korea and associated with breeder and grower Mason Lee of Mason Plants.

Rather than being the result of a newly designed hybrid cross, ‘Venom’ is reported to have originated as a spontaneous morphological mutation of Alocasia × amazonica, identified by Mason Lee around 2019 and subsequently developed and introduced into cultivation.

Its connection to × amazonica gives ‘Venom’ a surprisingly historic genetic background beneath its very modern appearance. Alocasia × amazonica itself belongs to the lineage produced from Alocasia sanderiana × Alocasia longiloba ‘Watsoniana’, a pairing responsible for several familiar cultivated Alocasia forms. Despite the name “amazonica”, the lineage is not South American. The name traces back to Amazon Nursery in Florida, where Salvadore Mauro developed and named × amazonica in the mid-20th century.

What separates ‘Venom’ from the familiar × amazonica appearance is its morphology.

As the plant develops, the blades can become extraordinarily sculptural. Deep sinuses, exaggerated lobing, pronounced marginal undulation and a narrow, almost skeletal silhouette give mature leaves an appearance quite unlike the conventional arrow-shaped Alocasia form.

The name is not particularly subtle. The irregular, almost organic outline was considered reminiscent of Venom, the Marvel character, and the cultivar inherited the name.

Juvenile plants may only hint at this architecture. With maturity and good culture, successive leaves can develop substantially more character. This makes ‘Venom’ one of those Alocasias where growing the plant is arguably more interesting than simply owning the finished specimen.

It is strange, architectural and immediately recognisable.

Exactly as a collector plant should be.

They are there on purpose.

As with any living plant, absolute sterility cannot be guaranteed. Plants should always be inspected on arrival and incorporated into your own quarantine and pest-management practices.
